Duties and Objectives
The German Association for Materials Research and Testing, founded in 1896, solely and exclusively serves non-profit technical and scientific purposes.
The technical and scientific activities of the DVM focus on the testing of materials, components and systems, paying specific attention to the demands in operational use.
Our aim is the assessment of suitability and the optimal choice of materials and testing methods for practical applications. Amongst these are the measurement and analysis of component and system loading under testing and operational conditions and the resulting material and component behaviour as well as the examination of the materials themselves and the advancement of the respective testing methods and facilities. These methods are continuously complemented and renewed due to new scientific insights. These activities accompany the component during its entire life cycle.
In order to achieve these tasks, the DVM is involved in the following activities:
- Knowledge transfer in the area of materials research and testing
- Promotion of testing methods development so as to identify the properties important for technical use, especially of new materials, as well as the perfection of the methods and facilities serving this purpose
- Promotion and improvement of the state of knowledge about materials and component testing as well as the application of materials parameters for the calculation and judging of components
- Promotion of the comprehension of damage processes under realistic demands as well as component damage
- Further education on all areas of materials, components and system testing and the respective methods
